Meeting with members of Legal Working Group

On 25 April, 2014 at State Water Resources Agency a meeting was held with the purpose of to become closely acquainted with members of Legal Working Group. Representatives of Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, State Agency for Water Resources under the Ministry of Emergency Situations, AzerSU JSC participated in the meeting as members of “Legal Working Group”.

Mr. Mezahir Efendiyev, Project Manager briefed the audience on Project status and implemented works in 2013. He stressed that the project is very important for

Azerbaijan. It covers several fields, including water sector, flood management with involvement of local communities, and adaption to climate changes. All these issues are of current importance for the water field of the country. Then Mr. Efendiyev introduced Shamil Huseynov’s report on “Analysis of Azerbaijan’s water (water resources management) legislation and political documents in this field’ and emphasized the significance of this report

Shamil Huseynov, Coordinator of Legal Working Group, firstly gave brief information about structure of written report. Mr. Huseynov noted that this report was prepared by little exerts group under his supervision; regarding this aspect all the subjects indicated in the report were only expert opinions. He emphasized that International Experts of the Project also reviewed the report and provided their comments.

After brief information about report he talked about Integration to European system on Water Resources Management issues. He underlined the role of State Commission for European Integration in this sphere and mentioned State Work Plan on legislation of Ecological issues.

In the finalization of the Meeting Mr. Mezahir Efendiyev stated the importance of putting the efforts together and addressing to Government with the list of suggestions on water resources legislation sphere. In conclusion Mr. Efendiyev thanked all participants and again emphasized the significance of the project both for MoES and UNDP. All questions and comments were valuable and the meeting was very fruitful.
